    "Darrin is the best tradesman we've ever had in our home. He was a delight to deal with and his communication and workmanship were second to none. He spent an arduous two weeks stripping wallpaper and plastering along with other bits and bobs along the way.     "Darrin did an awesome job on our spare bedroom!
    I came across Darrin via No Cowboys and chose him because of the number of great reviews he had and people were not wrong! Darrin is great and is also a really friendly guy.

    He quickly came around to inspect the job, completed the job in a timely manner, but to a high standard, and left the bedroom in a very tidy state.

    We will definitely be using him again!

    "I had the wonderful pleasure of having Darrin and his son Jackson take on a thankless task of repairing my flood affected home this month and what a task it was. I have used many plasterers over my time but never have I had someone so accommondating, repectful, attention to detail, excellent at his job and just outright a wonderful kind nature man. They just got on and did the job even if it meant having to redo some of our amature attempts to be gib fixers in some areas and not a mention, they… just did it. I am using them for my new project a full house renovation and I am that person - painfully fussy so I absolutely recommend. My home looks better than new so there are silver linings to some situations."

    "Wonderful, friendly team. An absolute pleasure to have them working here all week. Super reliable, outstanding communication. We're all painted now and looks mint. Our painters pointed out a couple of small areas they wanted addressed and Darrin was here within a couple of hours and sorted it immediately. I was blown away with his responsiveness (and I believe this was all in between bucketing out his flooded basement from the Auckland floods)!! Highly recommended."

    "Darrin turned up as promised the day after I called; only to discover my job was an exterior plaster repair and he was an internal plasterer… no problem: he needed to go get some cement from a local Bunnings and rejig his day, he was soon back and job done before lunch. We had a tricky situation arise and Darrin graciously sorted it which saved us time and needing to get the builder back. All of this and a superb plastering finish ready for painting.     "I needed holes, cracks and dents repaired in the walls of our lounge room and dining room (in our 1920s bungalow) and I was undecided about what to do with our Anaglypta hall walls. Darrin came over on the weekend (which worked really well for us) and provided us with some much needed advice.

    I'm really pleased with the workmanship, the walls are smooth and will look fantastic when painted.

    Darrin provided great advice, communicated well, arrived when he said he would and his experience… showed as he works with the materials.

    I wouldn't hesitate to bring Darrin back when we do our next round of home repairs.    "

    "Two skylights were installed a few years back in our house and never plastered, because I was going to get around to it. His quote was clear, he arrived when he said he would, communicated well throughout the work, needed no supervison, and completed the work promptly. His workmanship was excellent and the painter that followed him agreed! There was minimal mess and collateral damage- a rare commodity for a plasterer IMHO.

    "Darrin was engaged to carry out repair work to 2 damaged walls and ceilings and to prepare all interior walls and ceilings prior to painting and skim more than half of them including lounge/dining room, family room, main bedroom and a number of other key walls.
    To say that he did an outstanding job would be an understatement - he turned 27 year old well worn walls and ceilings into as new condition providing a great base for painting. Before Darrin started the job I didn't know what skimming… entailed, and found quickly that to do a really good job is a skill and takes a great deal of practise both of which Darrin posses in spades!

    At all times Darrin was friendly and cheerful and a hard worker.

    "Darrin was referred to me to fill in the holes made when I had some downlights moved. He was in contact with me within a couple of days to make an appointment for the following day. He turned up on time, was ultra friendly, gave a very acceptable quote and was onto the job in no time. I left him there with my cat while I was at work and I returned home to find he had cleaned up after himself and the cat was still indoors.     I handed Darrin what I thought was a hospital pass after pulling an old kitchen out and asking him to turn a wall (and ceiling complete with damaged coving) that was a complete dogs breakfast, warped, cracked and full of holes from removed tiles, electrical switches and a range hood, into a wall again...

    After a couple of hours Darrin handed me back a wall that I didn\'t think possible looking at what he started with. The finish… is so well done that it doesn\'t need to be touched with sandpaper before painting!

    If you want great plastering work done then Darrin is the man to do it! I know I\'ll certainly be calling him again...    "

    "Darrin was the first person we hired to do work on our house and we are glad we did hire him as he definately left us with some positive feelings for the beginning of our home renovation journey.

    He kept in touch and had good communication with us and kept to all the things that he said and we said would be done. Above all, his work was excellent.

    Hes polite, extremely business like and will always talk to you properly about the job, whats needed and also how best to do it - in a timeframe

About us
I am a fully qualified, North Shore based, plasterer with more than 40 years experience in the trade. My son Jackson has joined the McLay team.

What we do
I specialise in repair jobs - getting rid of those ugly cracks in your ceilings and walls, fixing interiors damaged by water, smoothing renovations in kitchens and bathrooms, and patching faults.
In particular I'm good at restoring the look of old villa interiors so you can't pick the difference between the old and the new.
