    "After a HDD drive failure and attempted data recovery they didn't identify my iMac as having a Fusion Drive (HDD and SSD working together for memory storage) and consequently totally stuffed up the data recovery. Further they made it impossible for me to do the data recovery else-where."

    "I am writing to recognise the competent and helpful work done by Melissa Murray.
    On Saturday 16 March 2024 I returned to Advanced Computers. By telephone on the day before Melissa had told me it was ready to collect. She told me: “If I need advice to log in to tell them. “ This was very sound advice.
    I spoke to William and asked for his help to log in. He handed me my old hard drive to keep [sound practice for the customer]. At a nearby desk he connected my computer to various cables, the screen, mouse and keyboard. The screen came on and there were the words “Hello Warren.” Shielding my fingers I typed in my password and it worked instantly.

    “The local supplier must have a demonstrable capacity to service and maintain the equipment.” This quotation comes from page 27 of the WHO book: ‘Selection of basic laboratory equipment for laboratories with limited resources.’ I am the co-author of this book.

    As I had earlier told William by turning the computer off then starting it again myself I had ‘peace of mind.’ He agreed.

    "Charged extra to get job done within three days, was one week, refused to refund the extra charge, laptop returned with new issue, refused to give me full diagnosis after paying for diagnosis. did not preserve removed parts for me as I had asked, this poses security and privacy problems. they have lots of good reviews that upon further inspection seem implausible, BEWARE."

    "We are proud to state that we have enjoyed receiving excellent service from Advanced Computers Northshore for over a decade now. From their earlier service centre at Link Drive to the present one at Triton Drive, we have got so many hardware and software issues addressed by their competent team to our complete satisfaction. We got major things: like replacing the motherboard, upgrading the hard drives to SSDs, upgrading an iPod classic, upgrading the operating systems, and repairing smartphones to minor things: like loose connections and resetting the BIOS and TV remotes. Above all, we get free advice and answers to all our questions.

    "I needed repairs to my Canon telephoto lens. Working with the company was excellent. From my initial contact to disussions during the repair process I was kept fully informed of the progress and also with the importation of parts needed to repair the lens. Since the lens has been returned to me I have found that the repairs have once again given me a fabulous clarity on the images I take which was missing before. Definitely would use this company again for any other repairs that I may need in the future."

    "SCAMMED! DO NOT RECOMMEND. I took my laptop in to get fixed for the first time. Was told they 'fixed the mainboard' however was still having problems after repair. So I took my laptop into an authorised Apple repairer and they found a NON-GENUINE apple battery in my laptop. ADVANCED COMPUTERS STOLE AND REPLACED MY MY BATTERY WITH A NON-GENUINE ONE! Very upset. No responsibility taken, very unprofessional - lying, no refund, no apology. Now having to pay double to get a genuine battery put back into my computer."

    "Delighted with the service provided, all contact was with the lovely lady at the front desk, so I'm not sure who actually completed the repair.
    After ringing to see if they could assist, I dropped son's computer off for screen repair, was greeted warmly greeted and provided with all the information/ details. Emails received were clear and repair was completed and ready for collection as advised.     "Terrible experience with this company, dropped my camera and lens off for a service and was told it will take 2 weeks to repair and clean both items. It took 18 weeks to get my camera back. Company never reached out to me with updates or to tell me of delays, I had to chase them up every time after hearing nothing and each time I get told ‘2 more weeks’. 0 communication and honesty. I use my camera for my business and not having my camera for this amount of time and not knowing when I am getting it back really impacted me, company refused to discount the service at all at pick up and did nothing to make up for terrible experience."

    "I had a Janome sewing machine that was continually blowing internal fuses which was caused by a faulty mother PCB. Having approached numerous sewing machine repairers and been told that parts were unavailable and to throw it out I asked Advantage Computers for help. I found them very obliging and helpful. They attended to the problem in a timely manner keeping me informed of progress at all times.
    They stuck to the price quoted which made the repair economical.
    I do not hesitate to recommend them to anyone requiring printed circuit board and electronic device repairs.

    "Awesome efficient service from the moment we walked through the door. Melissa was friendly and very helpful. She took our details and gave us an estimated timeframe for when we would be contacted about the total cost to repair our iPad screen and this information was sent out quickly.

    We were given 2 options for repair. Option 1 was to repair the screen and straighten the frame. Option 2 was a screen repair plus a new iPad frame. I asked about whether or not we would need option 2 as it was a lot more costly and we were told that this was not necessary and that the iPad would function perfectly but it was up to me. I went with option 1 which included screen repair and frame adjustment and the finished result was perfect. The frame was straightened and almost looks brand new which is great!

    The communication between us was very fast and the iPad was fixed earlier then the expected date. Would definitely recommend their services and I’ll return again should I need something repaired.

    The receptionist was very helpful and was happy to line up the job for diagnosis - stating they would provide a quote on Thursday 2nd December. I paid a deposit - no issue with that.

    The quote was provided in terms of the arrangement and accepted. The job undertaken on the Thursday for the additional payment. The job was completed to my satisfaction and not expensive in the scheme of things - at $210.

    "Disputes Tribunal Rule Against Advanced Computers.

    Avoid this company at all costs. I put my phone in for BOARD REPAIR with explicit instructions that the data must be retained. Over a week later the phone was ready but they replaced the board removing my data. I told them to put the original board back in so it could be sent to Apple for data recovery as this was not what I had instructed.
    The phone arrived at apple and they open it to find the phone is an absolute mess, missing half its parts the other half has been damaged, the phone is now written off.

    To make it worse Advanced computers that are trading as Apple approved/accredited are actually not so my warranty has been voided, this was proven by Apple (Certification lasts 364 days, Advanced computers latest was 2017. The technician that worked on my phone was not even certified).

    Advanced computers accepted negligence but refused to pay out for the replacement cost of the phone so I had to take them to tribunal. They lost and were found to be in breach of the Consumers Guarantees act by doing such as terrible “repair” job and in breach of the Fair Trading act through misleading advertising on their website and storefront signage. They were ordered to pay out the cash value of the phone. This whole process took just under 12 months even though they admitted fault soon after damaging it.

    And before Advanced computers respond to this review about not preserving data I will state what the referee stated. “If Mr. Manzi has contract Advanced computers to repair the device and part of the contract is to preserve the data, Advanced computers cannot have a contract that contradicts Mr. Manzi’s contract as that would be a red herring”

    Do not use this company, they will not only lie to you but as I found out they will also lie in court.

    If you have experienced anything similar with Advanced Computers, implore you to not let them get away with it go through the process. It takes a while but it is worth it in the end.

    TLDR: Took my phone to Advanced Computers for repair as they advertised that they were Apple accredited/approved, they destroyed it and I took them to tribunal as they refused to pay out for a replacement, they lost as they were in breach of the Fair Trading Act and the Consumers Guarantees Act.

A physical damaged faulty phone was sent in for repair, and the repair decision was changed from hardware repair to data recovery, which was failure due to physical damage. Then the repair was canceled. The iPhone was rush to be picked up right before level 4 lock down, when our Apple certified technician was depressed. A claim of a brand new latest version iPhone was declined by the court. Advanced computers respect the court decision, but still couldn't help an angry customer calm down. We feel sorry about this. My PC was also serviced at the Wairau business and I was so pleased that I was able to get it back with all the settings intact with downloads still available too.     my xbox failed Oct 2018 and they got it going for $300. ouch!.
    5 months later exact same part failed. told me warranty was only 3 months . ouch again.
    i questioned why the exact same part failed again- they "fixed the puncture but not removing the nail".
    we emailed back and forward for a week then they said it was another part causing the issue. i questioned why that wasnt picked up in oct 2018.
    AC then claimed the other part [ external power adapter] tested ok first time, but not this time. Yeah, right.

    i questioned why this new information was missing from the 2nd repair quote. No response to that. surely they'd have mentioned such an important detail at the time ?

    in my opinion AC have no idea why it keeps failing.

    I said They made up the external power adapter testing ok in Oct 2018 but causing the internals to fail in march 2019. made it up as the conversation went to, to avoid a refund, or free repair. No response to that.

    And they know that as they've already got the money, there's nothing you can do about it."

    "Just thought that I should give some feedback on Advanced Computers as regarding the servicing and repair of digital camera’s. First off I have no ties with this company and it has been the first time I have used them. Basically my back up Nikon body: a D600 stopped working after a hefty knock while within its bag, so needed repairing and as Advanced Computers were close to where I live I thought I would give them a try; so this is how it went:
    I took the Camera in on Thursday and paid the $50 deposit, which acts as a payment for the initial teardown and quote (the $50 becomes part of your bill should you choose to go ahead and have the repair made).

    I received the quote on the Friday, which for reference the costs were, as per quote pasted below:

    Mainboard assembly unit faulty, replacement required, plus camera cleaning and maintenance required.

    $554 incl Gst -Inspection

    Cost break down:

    - Parts Main board $380 incl GST (In store)

    - Labour for camera repair service $164 incl GST

    Note: the initial inspection fee $50 will be taken off the final service fee, the balance will be $494 incl GST.

    I thought this quote to acceptable but unfortunately the camera wasn’t insured; so probably like everyone; it can be a real annoyance having to pay for something that could have been avoided and in

    this case one just had to accept it and move on.

    The camera was ready on the Wednesday the following week (4 working days in total) which I thought was a very good quick repair and the camera works perfectly once more.

    So in summation: Advanced Computers gave me what I was after: great service, price and an excellent repair, what more could you ask for? Friendly and helpful staff? Yep they have them too

    and his name is Lovish Bhardwaj, a great guy. Really happy with their service.

    "I took my laptop in on a Friday before a long weekend. I gave a description of the problem and what I had done to try to fix it myself, and explained that we would be going away in less than 2 weeks. The lovely lady on the desk said she would put a note on for the technicians so that if they were able, they might try to get it back for me in time. I didn't really hold out much hope that it would be, as 10 working days is usual for this sort of thing, and it was a long weekend. Imagine my surprise, and delight, to receive an email on the Sunday explaining what needed to be done to repair the laptop, and details of how to pay so that the work could be started as soon as possible. On the Wednesday I got an email to say it was ready for collection. What a delighted customer I was. Admittedly, it just needed a completely new hard drive, which I guess would be relatively straight forward, but even so, I think their service was excellent and would have absolutely no hesitation in using them again should I have a need."

    "I took a dslr camera in for sensor cleaning, several other companies in auckland advertise this service from $65 to $85. Advanced computers penrose was most convenient to me. I asked for an estimate and was told they would inspect the camera first and there is a $50 inspection fee.

    Two and a half days later I received a quote for $255...
    Looking more closely I saw this included $50 for same day service - ludicrious I feel since they had already had my camera so long and unethical to put it in the bill at all without first asking if I wanted this.

    I'd done some research in the interim. Cleaning is a relatively simple process if you have the correct equipment. The price is far too high.

    I called to discuss. Nancy met me and showed me a disassembled sensor - to do the cleaning I believe I required does not require disassembly. I took the lens off, raised the mirror and showed her - you just reach in a with a swab and clean that.

    After 'discussing with her technician' she did not try to explain the price difference and just said 'we have our methods' and that the camera would be very well cleaned.

    I cancelled the job and got half my 'inspection fee' back. I will not use this company again.

    "I went into the Penrose Branch yesterday as my laptop wouldn't allow me to log in. I spoke with a very helpful young woman whose name I think was Amanda. As my laptop was quite old and it seemed likely that the hard drive was in the early stages of packing up, she offered me an instant solution to enable me to access all my data files with a clever and inexpensive gadget rather than go through and expensive solution of putting a new hard drive and rebuilding of my old laptop. She was so knowledgeable and helpful and showed me how to use the gadget on the spot. This really was best due to age of the laptop and I'll be able to transfer all my files when I get a new one.     "I was informed that it would take up to 10 working days to complete this job. I was notified via email on the quote and authorised the company to go ahead with the fix on 13/01/16. Full payment of repairs was made on 10/02/16. During the time of repairs I had no communication of what was happening, whether my machine was waiting to be fixed (queued), if parts were found or when the job was in operation. Exactly 4 weeks of no communication once a small part of payment was made. I am aware that repairs can take time and I understand that I could've contacted them myself but at times I forgot about it and I guess I also believed that the job would get done and they would get hold of me as I trusted this company to fix my problem. This is not a complaint...perhaps a small suggestion to keep customers in the loop if a job is going to take longer than quoted.

    I wish to thank you for the service, my children were very happy to have their machine back which made me a happy parent. I would definitely recommend you to anyone I know. Thank you again.

    "Over the past month I have had problems with three electronic items
    1. A Sony Handycam with a focus problem
    2. A Canon Ixus camera that got wet
    3. A Sony Data projector with a focussing problem.
    I approached Advanced Computers Penrose about the Handycam and the projector and found the initial meeting informative and I was left with no doubts as to what the process would be from then on. They met the promised deadlines and the quality of the repairs was excellent.
    Due to my being in the area I took the camera to their Link shop and found the same degree of efficiency and service. Again I was kept well informed and time lines were kept. A treasured camera was retuned as new.

    At the completion of all the transactions I received a print out of all the discussions that taken place about the jobs.

    I can strongly recommend this company for any electronic repairs. Their receptionist and service staff are polite and go to great lengths to listen to your explanation of the fault then to ensure that the customer understands the processes and likely outcome

    "We purchased an iMac in 2010. It stopped backing up in Time Machine, although worked in other aspects and my son Paul who lives overseas said it mostly likely has bad blocks and to change the Hard Drive. Studied the way to do this when Paul strongly advised to take it to experts. Advanced Computers were very easy to deal with and we agreed on a day of delivery. They completed the job the same day and it now works perfectly and it is obvious to me that I was dealing with experts, having worked in the technical industry all my life. One instinctively knows what to look for!. The lady on the counter could not have been better to deal with and we would never consider any other company but Advanced Computers."

    "I had mistakenly dropped my Canon Digital Camera and the lens got stuck making it impossible to retract.

    I found Advanced Computers from Internet. The customer service staff was professional and courteous, advised me clearly on their repair procedures and time line. They did a great job fixing and cleaning it (it looks almost new) and the fee was reasonable (much cheaper than buying a similar class of camera).

    "My HP laptop needed a fan replacement. Not only did Advanced Computers provide a competitive price and a 3 month warranty, they were also very quick and have a great professional attitude.

    When you talk with them you'll know that these guys know their ****. Called up other places for quotes nobody else could provide a quote or turn-around time. All everyone else refuse to give me a repair price guideline. Not the case here. Emailed about 9am, got a reply at 10am same morning. Brought it in and they knew exactly what needed to be done.

    I had to bring my laptop back a second time as I didn't provide the Windows password for them to fully test it the first time. They called back about 3 hours later and told me it was fixed! No cost because it was under warranty.

    Unlike other places, these guys treat warranty repairs like new customers and get to work straight away! Same exceptional service.

    Highly recommended!

    "Advanced dealt with the resurrection of my ailing “Outlook” email system .. to their credit, they remedied the “freezing” scenario which had developed,& incoming mail began to flow again
    .. BUT .. without reference to me, they removed copious mail I had retained in my “Inbox” much of which was important (property, IRD, financial correspondence).
    It was some time before I was aware of this desecration (in fact, “Advanced” had done further work on my PC in the interim).

    When the significance of my lost mail became apparent, I entered into an absurdly lengthy email exchange with “Advanced” the outcome of which was that they

    would investigate the recovery of my mail .. but at my expense.

    I quote from part of our email exchange:

    “I don’t believe I should be expected to pay to have my mail recovered, when it should never have been removed without my knowledge.”

    Their response :

    "Our service fee is from $50". .. they simply would not address culpability

    this from a Company whose website “repair” page proudly proclaims

    "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed"

    .. I will seek an alternative company to (hopefully) recover my lost mail .. I am uncomfortably aware of the possibility that it may be irretrievable !

    "I spilled coffee on the keyboard of my 2 year old 15\" MacBook Pro. I dried the machine to the best of my ability and had it powered off for over 24 hours. The next day, my worst fears were realized when the machine would not power on.
    It was at this point that I went online found Advanced Computers. I called and was able to talk to one of their front line staff and tell him what I experienced. He was really great on the phone, and advised their efficient procedures, confirmed my MacBook Pro inspection only takes 48 hours as standard, and same day service available. I was able to bring the machine in their Penrose branch, used their priority service and pickup on next business day.

    I am using the machine right now to type this review, and I have to say that after the repair, the machine works great. I really appreciate the service, the price was super reasonable compare to replacement. Definitely recommend their Mac repair service, cost effective and efficient.
