"Ben has worked on my apartment 3 times over the last year. Every time he's made sure I know what the problem is, what his options for fixing the problem are, and guided me towards the simplest fix. Despite knowing a whole lot more than me, he's never taken advantage of the knowledge gap or encouraged unnecessary and expensive work.
We first met when the power to my entire apartment went out on a weekend despite no fuses tripping in my apartment's box. Ben saved me hundreds of dollars that day. Nearly every other electrician was going to charge me a $300 callout fee to come and take a look. None of the others even mentioned the fusebox until I brought it up, so it was clear they would have been happy to charge me $300 just to flick my fuse back on. Unlike the others, Ben asked for photos of the fusebox, agreed nothing was wrong with it and explained that apartments often have an external master switch locked away outside. Since the switch is locked away, it took an hour of waiting around until the building manager would open it for me. Ben arrived during this wait time and easily could have joined me waiting for the building manager while charging me for his time. Instead, he kept my bill absurdly low (under $40), by telling me to give him a call if flipping the master switch didn't solve the issue. Ben could have taken hundreds of dollars for an unnecessary callout while adding his full hourly rate, instead he gave good advice and made sure my bill was low.
Since then, Ben has replaced lights and major appliances in my house and will always be my preferred electrician."
