The quote that we initially received was $115/hr plus GST, a minimum… of 3hrs which Auckland Movers indicated to us would be sufficient for the amount of furniture and the small distance between homes. We made it clear that we were only making the booking with the understanding it would be more or less $400 incl GST. We paid a deposit of $97. The mover then stated that we had to pay for their travel to and from Papatoetoe, meaning that we were paying for their services for an additional 1.5hrs that we had agreed to and used. They helped us move for 3hrs but they insisted that we would have to pay for 4.5hrs, meaning we were paying for them to be late and not be helping us move?

They became slightly animated when they saw us become frustrated and began to raise their voice, speak quickly and effectively told us that we had to make the transfer on the spot. They speedily pushed us through signing the contract, and told us to take it up with complaints if we had a problem with the additional costs.

However we were shocked and pressured to pay an additional $599 on the spot for their travel and lateness as well. This means that we ended up paying a total of $696 when we had budgeted and being strictly advised upon booking $395 would be sufficient.
