Established in 1984, with a combined 54 years of experience among the three-person team.
We strive to carry out quality arboricultural work in a professional manner.

"Highly recommended and we'd use no others….Another big job on 3 properties completed to their usual fabulous standard by Mark,Joel and Hannah. They arrive on the scheduled day and time and set to work…thinning camellias, precision trimming hedges and ivy covered trellis. shaping topiary, removing agaves, shaping citrus, advising and staking a wonky hedge and finished with a faultless clean up. "The Heartwood Trees team are by far the best arborists we have dealt with in Auckland. Mark, Joel and Hannah are professional, knowledgable, incredibly hardworking, friendly and easy to deal with. They have spent two full days at our large Mt Eden property trimming hedges, removing and pruning trees that needed serious but careful work after being left for some time! "I approached Heartwood Trees to reduce the height of a gnarly bunch of monkey apple trees on the back boundary of my property.
Mark, Joel and Hannah did a fantastic job and I very pleased with result.
They are very friendly to deal with and they went the extra mile and stacked to cut branches as fire wood leaving a tidy section.

"Very highly recommended. We noticed Joel working in GreyLynn doing the most precise hedge trim we had ever seen and drove around until we found the site and Joel, Hannah and Mark hard at work
We needed a lot of out of control and old woody ivy cut back to the trellis perimeters.
As well as a large Titoki,huge Bay tree and old Guava tree shaped and reduced by ?, Also Coprosma Virescens and RewaRewas shaped and some “little kiwi balls reshaped. Joel arrived on time the next day and assessed the job.
Then Mark, Joel and Hannah got to work… what a team!!
They were prompt, professional, great communicators and their clean up was spotless. So a faultless job and we will happily engage them again. 10 stars :-)

"Always a pleasure to arrive home to another excellent job!
Have used the father & sons team of Heartwood Trees for many years and have always been very happy with their work and work ethic from initial contact and arrangement of the task, to the final cleanup. No surprise that they remain my preference.
Today, Mark & Joel dealt competently to the straggly overhang from a neighbour's tree which was robbing my home of light, as well as canopy reduction and shaping of two others. Joel has a particular talent, it seems, for getting a high canopy nice and tidy and some of my "jobs" have been a tad challenging!
Cleanup is very well done though I often keep the mulch generated from the chipping up of branches. Give it a while, and you have a great natural resource for the garden. They are also obliging to cutting up any wood eventually required for the fireplace. I particularly appreciate how Mark has a respect and empathy for trees and seeks to bring out their best to maximise their look on your property.
Having said that, he will politely proffer honest advice where something may not work so well. Fees are reasonable and reflective of their professionalism."

"As an overview EXCELLENT! Mark took 10 mins from my call to come to my house to view what I wanted done and quote. We agreed a price and the work to be done and shook hands. He was able to give me 10 days notice, but good weather allowed Mark to do it earlier. He rang prior to the agreed time and advised he might need to call if needed which I agreed to. I didn't need a call... he did every thing I asked - as I had asked. What amazed me is the shape and detail he and the team did. It was so good you wouldn't know he had taken about 40% of the tree away. No patches, no left over and it looks 100%. Mark spent time to also talk to me at the end of the day..100% impressed.. I will use Mark next time and not go to any others..."

"I made an earlier negative post as I had difficulty in getting hold of Mark to confirm a quote and job specifications. However Mark responded promptly, apologised for his mistake, and was clearly highly knowledgeable when we met to discuss plans. He educated me about my backyard and helped me find a balance between needing more light and space and preserving my beautiful trees. "Mark and his son Tim worked all day on clearing unwanted trees
and branches on our property.Mark refers to branches as \"limbs\"!But don\'t get me wrong,he\'s no tree-hugger!He has a real empathy for the work that needs to be done for the customer to get the best results.In terms of pricing the job his was the best(I.e.lowest).Got the job done better than expected,sooner than expected and without any worries.The best arborist I\'ve ever used-even has business cards!

"I hired Mark through this website. I had a large tree removed including a smaller one next to it at the edge of my property. At the onset, Mark came over and was through in his assessment; he was knowledgeable, courteous, professional and was honest about his quote (even telling me get quotes from other places).
The job was completed very quickly and comprehensively. The tree was overhanging a power line and the tree was removed carefully. The clean-up was excellent with no evidence that they had been there at all except for the removed tree.
I can recommend Mark and his sons highly. Expert tree advice and a very high quality job."

"We had Mark and his lovely boys back to do a huge clean-up: the removal of two trees (and yes, as advised by Mark, we did check with the council first), and pruning of trees that hadn't been shaped in 20 years. They did an absolutely beautiful job. Mark really loves trees, and he shaped our old trees by hand, giving them form and letting lovely filtered light in through the garden.
I think they are magicians! The garden has never looked so good, and they did all of this without damaging a single plant.
They are also a delight to have around - and clean up beautifully."

"We are delighted with the efficient way Mark and his team cut down an enormous conifer tree which was in a very awkward position in our garden. Not only did they expertly cut down the tree but, after chipping and disposing of all the folliage, they then cut the wood into manageable lengths for us for firewood, stacking it in a big pile at the side of our garden. They arrived promptly at the appointed time and cleared up extremely well before leaving. We are most impressed. They did a wonderful job."

"Mark was quick to respond to my initial query for a quote to remove some trees and trim others, he arrived at the appointed time, provided a quote I was happy with and also offered some helpful advice. When one of the trees in question came down on its own the next day, I once again contacted Mark, and by the time I got home the following day the tree had been cleared away and firewood left behind as requested. "This was the 2nd time Heartwood Trees have done work at our property. This time was in response to a large tree that partially came down about 8pm Friday. Phoned Mark immediately he and his son came to inspect Saturday morning then returned a short time later as promised. Very pleasant people, good consistent, tidy workers. We were again very pleased with their workmanship. Our neighbours were thrilled to have approx 2years firewood already cut in manageable pieces for them to downsize."

"We had a huge camphor laurel tree, about 25m tall, which had been dying for some time but was right next to and over the house, and directly beside our big vegetable garden - a real challenge which we\'d put off addressing. We had a couple of quotes but what made Mark stand out was a straightforward confidence that he and his sons would manage it (without, as others had suggested, either extra insurance for roof damage or having to take down our various aerials right under the top branches or giving up half the veg garden to expected destruction).
The accuracy of the felling was very impressive - amazing to see 4x1m pieces of trunk be dropped down from15m into a small space exactly as he had predicted. They also removed two 25m lemonwood trees without any noticeable damage to surrounding small trees - some as near as a metre to the base of the lemonwood. The whole job was done efficiently, speedily, without fuss, and his quote was by far the most reasonable."

"Mark and his two sons came to remove our lovely old plum tree which had just keeled over. They came the day I phoned them, to have a look at the job (which also included taking out two other dead trees), and to give a quote. I was very upset about the plum tree and they were just lovely: sympathetic and understanding about how upsetting the loss of a much loved old tree can be.
They came back a few days later - "the undertaker's here", said Mark - exactly on time. The tree was in the centre of an established garden and they managed, amazingly, to get it out with damaging a single leaf of any other plant. They cleaned up beautifully and even put a pot back without being asked. They charged less than the already very reasonable quote because they said it hadn't taken as long as they'd anticipated. And they're a pleasure to have around."

"Highly recommended - Mark and his son did an excellent job - very professional - cleaned up perfectly - left everything better than before! "It was a real pleasure having the Heartwood Team on my property for a day. They worked hard, gave me good advice, consulted me as they had to make decisions, charged me a reasonable price, by agreement left me with a a great stack of logs and chips for the garden, were courteous and friendly and cleaned up beautifully at the end of the day. They noticed a large pohutakawa branch pushing over my fence, tried a couple of creative ways to save it but in the end had to take it off - and only charged me $70 extra for this work. Finding a thoughtful arborist who knows his trees and appreciates them is a treat -there are lots of chainsaw cowboys out there! I\'ve recommended them to many of my friiends already."
