Have used the father & sons team of Heartwood Trees for many years and have always been very happy with their work and work ethic from initial contact and arrangement of the task, to the final cleanup. No surprise that they remain my preference.
Today, Mark & Joel dealt competently to the straggly overhang from a neighbour's tree which was robbing my home of light, as well as canopy reduction and shaping of two others. Joel… has a particular talent, it seems, for getting a high canopy nice and tidy and some of my "jobs" have been a tad challenging!
Cleanup is very well done though I often keep the mulch generated from the chipping up of branches. Give it a while, and you have a great natural resource for the garden. They are also obliging to cutting up any wood eventually required for the fireplace. I particularly appreciate how Mark has a respect and empathy for trees and seeks to bring out their best to maximise their look on your property.

He was able to give me 10 days notice, but good weather allowed Mark to do it earlier. He rang prior to the agreed time and advised he might need to call if needed which I agreed to. At the onset, Mark came over and was through in his assessment; he was knowledgeable, courteous, professional and was honest about his quote (even telling me get quotes from other places).
The job was completed very quickly and comprehensively. The tree was overhanging a power line and the tree was removed carefully. The clean-up was excellent with no evidence… that they had been there at all except for the removed tree.

100%"We had Mark and his lovely boys back to do a huge clean-up: the removal of two trees (and yes, as advised by Mark, we did check with the council first), and pruning of trees that hadn't been shaped in 20 years. They did an absolutely beautiful job. Mark really loves trees, and he shaped our old trees by hand, giving them form and letting lovely filtered light in through the garden.
I think they are magicians! The garden has never looked so good, and they did all of this without damaging a… single plant.

100%"We had a huge camphor laurel tree, about 25m tall, which had been dying for some time but was right next to and over the house, and directly beside our big vegetable garden - a real challenge which we\'d put off addressing. We had a couple of quotes but what made Mark stand out was a straightforward confidence that he and his sons would manage it (without, as others had suggested, either extra insurance for roof damage or having to take down our various aerials right under the top branches or… giving up half the veg garden to expected destruction).
The accuracy of the felling was very impressive - amazing to see 4x1m pieces of trunk be dropped down from15m into a small space exactly as he had predicted. They also removed two 25m lemonwood trees without any noticeable damage to surrounding small trees - some as near as a metre to the base of the lemonwood. 100%"Mark and his two sons came to remove our lovely old plum tree which had just keeled over. They came the day I phoned them, to have a look at the job (which also included taking out two other dead trees), and to give a quote. I was very upset about the plum tree and they were just lovely: sympathetic and understanding about how upsetting the loss of a much loved old tree can be.
They came back a few days later - "the undertaker's here", said Mark - exactly on time. The tree was in… the centre of an established garden and they managed, amazingly, to get it out with damaging a single leaf of any other plant. They cleaned up beautifully and even put a pot back without being asked. They charged less than the already very reasonable quote because they said it hadn't taken as long as they'd anticipated. 100%"It was a real pleasure having the Heartwood Team on my property for a day. They worked hard, gave me good advice, consulted me as they had to make decisions, charged me a reasonable price, by agreement left me with a a great stack of logs and chips for the garden, were courteous and friendly and cleaned up beautifully at the end of the day. They noticed a large pohutakawa branch pushing over my fence, tried a couple of creative ways to save it but in the end had to take it off - and only… charged me $70 extra for this work. Finding a thoughtful arborist who knows his trees and appreciates them is a treat -there are lots of chainsaw cowboys out there! Established in 1984, with a combined 54 years of experience among the three-person team.
We strive to carry out quality arboricultural work in a professional manner.

We needed a lot of out of control and old woody ivy cut back to the trellis perimeters.
As well as a large Titoki,huge Bay tree and old Guava tree shaped and reduced by ?, Also Coprosma Virescens and RewaRewas shaped and some “little kiwi balls reshaped. Joel arrived on time the next day and assessed… the job.
Then Mark, Joel and Hannah got to work… what a team!!
They were prompt, professional, great communicators and their clean up was spotless. So a faultless job and we will happily engage them again. 10 stars :-)
