The urgent work the week before Christmas was so helpful, timely and they came up with a pragmatic solution for a major leak on main water line into the house. They came up with the solution where others had failed to find the problem to start with. So replaced main pipe into house, left the yard and path nicely repaired post job. 100%"Thank you!! After several days of not being able to use my kitchen sink because of a leaking waste disposal unit and washing up in a bucket, I got an appointment with help within 2 days. I now have a new wastemaster, which they acquired for me, a leak-free kitchen mixer tap and new ballcocks in the cylinders in the roof. 100%"Replaced our 30 year old Brivis central heating unit with a new Brivis SP623. The new unit was installed internally underneath the house. Nikita and the team were friendly and efficient in installing the unit and removing the old external unit. Following on from the initial installation, Darren audited the installation and had the team return to add extra earthquake strengthening to the unit and add extra strapping to ensure the flue pipes stayed in place.
We've had the unit for 6 months now… and its been great. It's quiet and heats the house much better than the old unit while also being cheaper.

Unit was broken and couldn't be relit but HG&P managed to source a new instant hot water unit and get a team of 5 on site to install it within 36 hours of me calling them. This is superb. The guys even mentioned that there's a post-covid shortage of the new units in NZ but they found one for us as a priority because we were without hot water. 28%"Had Hutt Plumbing & Gas out to replace a known part on a gas central heating unit, for which they are service agents. These guys charge $173 for the first hour incl travel and $40 per 1/4 hour after = $160/hr. Up to you to decide if that's reasonable or not.
In our case, despite them checking the model number, then me double checking again days beforehand, the technician arrived without the required part. Then charged up over 2.5 hours ($411) just on inspecting the unit and the… califont. Apparently he was very polite and seemed professional though. We had no written outcome from the technician (though he did discuss things with my partner), and then we had no contact until receiving a $411 bill two months later. We still didn't even know what would be involved in time or cost to change the part we had asked to be changed, but were later advised it would be a two man job over at least 3 hours. To their credit they refunded us much of the original bill leaving us with a fair portion to pay which we did. Overall a poor experience and comms. I wouldn't be surprised if these guys are usually good as the other reviews say, and maybe this was a rare slip-up, but we won't be touching them again."Colleen Upton responded:"Hi Andrew, thank you for providing feedback on your experience. She enlisted them to carry out a pre winter 'WOF' on her gas fire which is ageing and has a tendency to stop lighting in the middle of winter when she really needs it. Unfortunately, this still happened but Hutt Gas & Plumbing stepped up, squeezed her in between appointments and got her back up and running again during what has been the coldest week this winter so far. 95%"I had a Rinnai Infinity unit installed four years ago in the expectation of significantly lower energy cost. Last Friday, however, I awoke to find there was no hot water, so I called the plumber who had installed the unit. He told me that the warranty on the unit was only for three years, that I may need to buy a new unit, but that I should first contact Rinnai to see if it could be fixed.
I called Rinnai who told me that they were fully booked until the following week, but that I could call… their service agents directly if I wanted to and gave me contact details for two firms.
The first confirmed they were booked until next week, so I next called Hutt Gas. Miri answered the phone and also told me they were busy, but that as that would leave me without hot water over the weekend she would try to rearrange their jobs. When she called me back she said that Josh Harris would call between 12 and 3 that day.
Josh arrived at about 1pm and when I described what was happening he said he thought he knew what the problem was. I was impressed as the unit seems quite complex. It took Josh about half an hour to disassemble the unit, clean some crud off some sensors and reassemble it. And sure enough the problem was fixed, much to my delight as I had thought I may have been up for a new unit.
Josh also pointed out that the unit needs to be serviced every two years and that the warranty was anyway void without a service history. He helpfully put a sticker on the side of the unit with the service date and contact details for Hutt Gas.
I did not know, or had forgotten, of the requirement to service the unit and, although I have not done the sums, the cost of servicing decreases the cost effectiveness of heating the water as it is used. Josh also pointed out that life expectancy of the unit was 10 years or maybe 15 if it is regularly serviced, which I had not considered when I made the decision to purchase the unit. Nevertheless, I suspect it is still less expensive than a hot water cylinder even though that maybe lasts for more than 20 years.
I am very pleased with the service from Hutt Gas. Both Miri and Josh knew what they were doing, they were efficient and they were both very helpful. We arranged to have the drain on our bathroom looked at because it wasn't draining properly. Josh discovered that it was an installation issue caused by the last owner doing a bad DIY renovation (not the first time the last owner's DIY has caused us problems) and that it would take a few hours of pipe surgery in the wall behind the vanity unit to fix it. Despite it being two weeks… before Xmas, Hutt Gas moved things around, communicated well, and got Josh back the next week to get the job done (in record time), leaving the work area clean (and functional again). The resulting invoice is double the cost of the last service (from a different provider) I had 2 years ago, inflation of 100% in 2 years. The invoice is not clear about the total time involved in completing my work and it looks at first glance like 2 hours on site were charged at 3 hours due to the call out fee. 100%"A tricky problem with a Masport gas heater was easily and efficiently sorted by the team at Hutt Gas &Plumbing. From my initial call to the team in the office who did the ground work with serial numbers and the ordering of part required meant the job was well on the way before a Trademan even turned up.Very efficient for the consumer.
Once the part had arrived at their workshop a booking was made to have it installed. The trademan turned up on time , very pleasant bloke and even had his… own vacuum cleaner .The part was fitted, tested and we are very happy customers.
My expectations are high and I think many can get the job done but the experience of getting the work done is the key.

95%"When I first rand Hutt Gas and Plumbing there was about a 6 week wait time for a heater service. They kindly gave me a list of other places to contact - but wait times were the same or worse so I went back to HG&P and booked in.
On the day we'd booked Tom arrived right on time. He did a great job of servicing our gas heater and showed me exactly what was going on with it and where the problems were. The heater is working like new now.
I'd definitely recommend these guys.

I was very impressed at his manner and professionalism during the installation process and found him to be a very polite, friendly and hardworking young man with an excellent work ethic. I felt the job was probably one that warranted having two guys to complete, but this didn't seem to be a problem for Patrick who ended up staying well after 5pm on a Friday to complete the work and ensure we… had hot water over the weekend. He also took the time to give us a full rundown of the system and how everything worked.
The following Monday, Andrew came to finish off by adding the condensate drain to the unit and a few other tidy up jobs, again, his manner and professionalism were exceptional also and a real credit to your company.

100%"We were very happy with this service. We called because we had no hot water - we're on an instantaneous gas hot water system - and we were offered an appointment for the following day. I had called a few other places who had several days wait, so this seemed pretty good.
On the day, Tom showed up 5 mins early (first time I've ever had a tradie who didn't show up late for an afternoon appointment!), and quickly fixed the problem we had with our hot water. I wasn't home so he called me to… update on what he'd done, and advised what the next steps would be if it didn't work. We thought we'd need a full replacement, so were relieved to know we had a range of options.
In terms of price, we were charged $140 for 45 minutes work. Charges were broken down to the nearest 15 minutes. I don't know what others charge, but this doesn't seem unreasonable to me, so I'm pretty happy with that.

They kept me informed of what they were doing and took me through the operation of the heater. They also cleaned up after themselves. He is very friendly. He listened to my what I was trying to achieve and created exactly what I wanted. He's an artist.

(Years ago I had work done in which the plumber used a… nasty old piece of 100*50 in my brand new wall (for the wingbacks) & it bugs me - still today).

100%"A leaky home is no joke and costly. We were about to experience that if not having engaged the Hutt Gas team to help. Our roof became rusty fast due to a bad design creating pools after rainy days. The Hutt Gas Plumbers had done several jobs splendidly for us before. This time Phil and Andrew came to replace our roof. Phil has excellent plumbing and roofing skills, but the bonus is his creative problem solving skills. He is not a usual plumber. He did not just replace the roof but indeed… provided a hassle free solution to overcome the original design pitfall. I am utterly thankful for him giving us now a lasting roof as claimed by the manufacturer. We commend Phil and Andrew’s hard work and professionalism. Changing the hot water system is a big decision, not to mention the money… involved. With their guidance and expert advices, this project had completed so smoothly. It certainly took a lot of our stress away. Especially most of the plumbing works are done underneath our house, in other words, we can’t see if the jobs are really completed or not.
