Weather was not great for period outdoor work occurred so just extended the period of work. Was given hourly rate up front and monthly invoices very detailed regarding work undertaken and materials purchased/applied. Mark easy to get hold of and kept me updated with where at regarding job. "Mark has done a few jobs for us now (including a great job on a bathroom renovation) and we keep calling him back as we are so happy with his quality of work, reliability and clear communications.
Most recently, we needed to replace a fold down clothesline and the work required was beyond us. This included removing the old concrete foundations for the support legs and then putting in new foundations and supports along with assembling the whole thing for us.

"We engaged Mark initially to conduct some external maintenance to our house in Waikanae. At the same time we were looking to get a bathroom renovated and Mark mentioned that he did that type of work as well and could also co-ordinate other contractors as required. We agreed and so Mark commenced to completely renovate the bathroom including a new mains pressure hot water cylinder, shower, vanity/basin, toilet, completely gutted the existing walls and ceilings to allow for installation of waterproof wall linings and arranged for a tiler who also did a great job .Along with the plumber and electrician that Mark works with. Mark also re-worked an adjacent wardrobe that gave us a new hot water /drying cupboard.
Mark did a brilliant job and is a very professional and friendly building contractor.
We thoroughly recommend him."

"Mark very competently completed some urgent temporary roof repairs for us in February 2020. The damage became apparent early on a Saturday morning prompting a call from us requesting Mark's assistance. Builders were very busy then, and we assumed he would arrive early the following week. Instead Mark visited us the same day to scope out the job. He then completed it the following day (Sunday) with the assistance of a colleague. "I have no hesitation recommending MGR building for any renovation or repair work.

Mark undertook a full bathroom renovation for us, as well as some other repair work around the house. This included stripping out our bathroom down to the studs, removing and replacing a linen cupboard and moving an internal wall. This achieved the generous and practically laid out bathroom we wanted. The results look fantastic, and are done to a high standard at a reasonable cost.

Having Mark manage the whole job, including recommending and coordinating tradies, was a great way to go. I found his communication with us to be outstanding, as he was always prompt replying to our queries and kept us up to date with progress throughout the course of the work. We found his common sense problem solving and easy to understand advice great for those of us inexperienced in renovation jobs."

"Mark was one of several builders who we talked to about our bathroom renovation job.
He was the person who gave us the most confidence that he could see what we wanted, understood the cost constraints we had and was able to make this work. Mark met with us to discuss removing an old bath and creating a more usable space in our quite small bathroom.
This included stripping out the walls, reclaiming a wardrobe from one room to create a larger space in the bathroom, removing vanity and bath, replumbing the water and adding heated towel rails, fans, heaters and additional electrical outlets and well as moving the plumbing from one wall to another.
Mark was clear about the costs, listened to our ideas and incorporated them into the plan and produced a wonderful finish to our new bathroom.
We added a new toilet upgrade and he did this seamlessly.
Mark worked with us to choose the best fittings and did so in his own time.
Mark vouched for and oversaw the plumbers/electricians and gave us the reassurance that he was on top of the contractors and their work.
We would employ Mark again when we next look at adding or altering our house in any way.
Billing was weekly and very clear.
In talking with us about another area of the house we had ideas for developing he was honest about the cost versus the return and this was refreshing as it was possible work for him.
Mark was also happy for my wife to help assist him in the build and this sped up the process.

Mark also has a very chilled dog."

"My description of the job was to repair/replace a shower. Right from the get-go, Mark was great to deal with. He gave me his honest opinion of the best solution for my shower, and an approximation of what it was likely to cost. He knew straight away how to deal with the fact that my house is a Lockwood, which presents some challenges when it comes to renovations, etc, His estimate of the cost was less than I had expected, and tho, due to reasons beyond his control and mine, the job took longer than we expected, the cost was very reasonable. Mark undertook a complex reconfiguration of our Lockwood home, including adding mezzanine floors, building a kitchen with built-in seating area, relocating a bathroom, creating new doorways and much, much more. Throughout he planned the work well, managed the sub contractors, provided good advice, came up with ways to save costs, and worked hard. "We have no hesitation in recommending MGR Building (Mark Robertson) for your building requirements. The problem was basically sagging joists in a flat roofed "rumpus" room built to join our house and garage. I had already engaged engineer consultants to advise on the appropriate solution. Mark visited us within an hour of my first 'phone call. He had the knowledge and confidence to suggest a modified solution, which was accepted by the engineers. I am below average in the DIY area but Mark was nevertheless happy to have me help him when required and I found working with him a pleasure.
Mark arrives when he says he will, and explains what he is doing and any problems he encounters.
His accounting for time and materials is highly detailed and needed no query.
Mark is a most ethical and professional builder and he would be our first preference for any future work."
