"When looking for a solar solution we found that Solar Guys were the best value for a 5Kw on-grid system. We live in Wellington and Nigel arranged all the shipping, it was all hassle free.
During the install Nigel was really helpful and quick to respond to my many questions.
After running the system for a while the inverter developed a problem that we couldn't resolve through the configuration setup. Nigel was 100% driven to get this sorted for us and engaged with the inverter… manufacturer. I don't think it was easy as they were based in Australia. The result was we were provided with a replacement inverter that was of a much higher spec than the one we had originally purchased. Great result.

We're really happy with the outcome and support Nigel provided through the whole process. Thanks, we really appreciate your dedication to looking after your customers. I have no hesitation what so ever in recommending Nigel and Solar Guys"

"Nigel Brooks from Solar Guys has supplied an excellent off-the-grid solar system for our renovated farm cottage near Arthurs Pass. We went for 3 kw SMA inverters, 10 roof mounted panels and 12 kWatt hours (6kW effective) of lead crystal battery storage. It is amazing to be able to leave lights on in darker parts of the house and effortlessly toast a bit of bread or quickly boil a jug for a cuppa! (Our little 2kWatt generator had to step up to maximum revs to run the jug or toaster!)
The… system has been operating wonderfully for over a year now. I hadn’t heard of lead crystal batteries from any other suppliers – but Nigel suggested these, and they have worked well in the low temperatures we experience in the mountains. (Li Iron batteries apparently need to be above 4 degrees C to function safely /efficiently?).

The most pleasing and unexpected aspect of the system is we often don’t need to light the woodstove / wetback to heat hot water – the PV system and a 1 kw element maintains the 270-litre cylinder at 60 degrees whenever the sun is out. (Since we have not internet, I turn the cylinder on and off manually depending on water temperature, battery charge, forecasted sunlight and likely usage). It’s great to arrive at the cottage and find the cylinder full of hot water and the fridge / freezer has been kept cold! The system has run all the builders power tools no problem.

Nigel has been amazing in helping us on our solar journey – it took us several years of learning, planning and accumulating funds before we committed to his recommended system. Over this time he patiently answered my many questions and sent any required information. His service has been outstanding - beyond what one could expect from a larger company – answering teething problems and troubleshooting questions quickly and efficiently - often outside business hours (a number of these were due to us using a local electrician rather than the Solar Guy electricians).

Nigel has been a pleasure to deal with – he does what he says he will. He knows the products he supplies, and his prices are fair and reasonable.

We are a Dunedin based, New Zealand company, Solar Guys, with Paul, who is also the CEO of the family electrical business, Victor Brown Electrical Ltd, which began in 1935.
